Parliamentary State Secretary Weiss: Involve patients in their care pathways
4th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety in Saudi Arabia
How can sensitive health data be protected from unauthorised access? What opportunities does digitalisation offer? What are the boundaries? These are the questions that Sabine Weiss, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Health, discussed at the Patient Safety Global Ministerial Summit held in Jeddah earlier this March.
Addressing health ministers and secretaries at the Global Ministerial Summit in Saudi Arabia, Parliamentary State Secretary Sabine Weiss spoke out in favour of making care pathways transparent and empowering the patients. Already today, the Bill to Achieve Greater Medication Safety and the electronic medication plan are setting standards for better patient safety in Germany.

Since 2016, the Patient Safety Summit has provided a forum for policy-makers, scientists and practitioners from all over the world to share their know-how, insights and ideas. It was set up jointly by Germany and the United Kingdom. This year, representatives from 50 countries and international organizations including WHO - with Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu, ICN and IAPO were having their discussions on 2nd and 3rd March. In addition to digitalisation, the agenda included the linking up of reporting and learning systems, medication safety and economic questions. The outcome is laid down in the Jeddah Declaration on Patient Safety that was adopted by the participating countries.
