German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information (DIMDI)

The German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information offers reliable medical knowledge via the Internet, oversees medical classifications and terminology that are important for health telematics and is responsible for a Health Technology Assessment programme. The German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information’s responsibilities also include the development and operation of database-supported information systems for medicinal products, medicinal devices and health technology assessment.

In all of these areas, the German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information cooperates closely with national and international institutions, such as the World Health Organization and European Union authorities.

In order to operate and provide access to its information system and supplementary databases, the German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information continues to work on the development of modern software applications and also maintains its own computer centre. The German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information supports the Federal Ministry of Health on the whole by providing it with an IT platform. It also directs IT projects involving other departments.
