It is our task to provide answers to central challenges such as demographic change and skills shortages. At the same time, geopolitical developments require our decisive action. Germany has already hit the road running: With reforms in primary and emergency care, we are taking the next step toward a resilient and efficient healthcare system. We will also better prepare our healthcare system for crisis scenarios. We know that investing in health means investing in social stability and economic prosperity.

In addition to her contribution to the panel discussion on global health investment, in Davos the Federal Minister of Health also met WHO Director-General Tedros and representatives from leading pharmaceutical companies.

The Minister affirmed her commitment to multilateralism and WHO’s key role in establishing international common ground in the face of countries going it alone with bilateral agreements. Topics discussed with Tedros also included promoting measures against antimicrobial resistance and strengthening the global competitiveness of Germany as a location for pharmaceutical and medical technology.

On this topic, the Minister subsequently exchanged views with global pharmaceutical and medtech companies and made the case for investments in the German research landscape and manufacturing capacity. Also discussed were incentives to promote innovation in European pharmaceutical legislation and demands for faster authorisation procedures, which are currently being examined by the Federal Government in the context of the pharmaceutical and medtech dialogue.
