Digital Together: Germany´s Digitalisation Strategy for Health and Care

In addition to a vision, goals and objectives for the digital transformation, the Strategy also sets out a regulatory framework and outlines the prerequisites for its successful, effective implementation. The Strategy document contains a detailed description of the measures to be taken.

  • Symbolbild Digitalisierung

Digitalisation offers many advantages in health and long-term care. It enables universal access to high-quality care, simplifies communication between service providers and eases the burden on the workforce. At the same time, it offers solutions to societal challenges such as the shortage of skilled healthcare professionals.

  • Brainstorming - Gruppe von Menschen

The aim is to further develop our health system into a people-centred, digitally supported ecosystem that optimally combines digital and analogue care approaches by 2030. To this end, three key areas of action with particularly high potential for improving health and long-term care provision have been identified: Digitally supported care processes, generation and use of health and care data as well as benefit-oriented technologies and applications.

  • Blöcke bilden Treppe nach oben

Many people were involved in the drafting and further development of the Strategy– among them representatives of patients, people in need of long-term care, representatives from the medical professions and pharmacists, long-term care and other health professions, health and long-term care insurance funds and other cost carriers, the healthcare industry and academia.

  • Wanderer auf einem Berg

Ambitious implementation of the Strategy is paramount. This is why key strategy projects and programmes will be directly introduced by means of legislation.  In order to make our healthcare system fit for the future, we need to keep implementation of the Strategy on track and monitor key developments that require adjustments to the Strategy.
