Gröhe in the USA for talks about global policy
13 March 2015. Federal Minister of Health Hermann Gröhe visited the US from 9 to 13 March 2015 to discuss international health policy and the joint fight against global health risks.
Meeting with his U.S. counterpart, Ms Sylvia Mathews Burwell in Washington, Federal Minister Gröhe set out, inter alia, the health policy priorities of Germany's G7 Presidency. These include the control of antimicrobial resistance and lessons from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. While in Washington, moreover, Gröhe visited Georgetown University's Lombardi Cancer Center to hear from the scientists about their most recent advances in cancer research.
In Atlanta, Minister Gröhe visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where he spoke about the international efforts in pushing back against the Ebola epidemic in West Africa and acknowledged the major contributions and input from the CDC. During his visit to the CDC, the Minister was joined by Professor Dr Lothar H. Wieler, the President of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
Wrapping up his journey in Minneapolis (Minnesota), Minister Gröhe visited several companies to gain first-hand insights into innovative medical devices and quality assurance systems.
