Meeting of the National Public Health and Veterinary Public Health Institute

The meeting was a premiere, as representatives of the Public Health and Veterinary Public Health-Institutes of the G20 came together for the first time in such a round. They have shared future principles of cooperation and experiences and best practices on combating antimicrobial resistances.

Participants were the directors and experts of the Public Health and Veterinary Public Health-Institutes in the G20 countries and representatives of international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

In the Forum of Directors of the Public Health and Veterinary Public Health Institutes at the Robert Koch Institute, the foundation was laid for a further cooperation between the G20 institutes, which also supports the further collaboration of experts within the institutes.

In a parallel conference experts from the human and veterinary sector jointly discussed in three workshops the topics "Rational Antibiotic Use”, “Surveillance Systems" and "Infection Prevention".

In order to provide a basis for discussion, the Institute for Veterinary Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the Freie Universität Berlin conducted a survey on relevant measures in the G20 and G20 guest countries. The survey covers all important aspects of antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance in the individual sectors.
